CHRISTMAS GINGERBREAD COOKIES

A traditional treat for Christmas time which make perfect gifts for loved ones. cut them into different shapes and sizes for the kids to enjoy.

INGREDIENTS

for 20 servings
350g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 pinch ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
100g cold butter
175g light brown sugar
1egg
4 tablespoons golden syrup

PREPARATION

Heat the oven to 190 degrees celcius (170 fan forced)

Line 2 large baking trays with non-stick baking paper

Cut up the butter into small pieces

Sift the flour, spices and bicarbonate of soda into a mixing bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs

Add the sugar, syrup and egg and mix well to a firm dough

Roll out on a lightly floured surface, about 5mm thick and cut out cookie shapes with cutters

Place a couple of centimeters apart on the baking trays and bake for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown

Cool on the baking trays for 5 minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely before decorating
